Black And Decker Cordless Hedge Trimmer: Everything You Need to Know about Them

If you’re thinking of upgrading your hedge trimmer and going cordless… If you are tired of cutting the cord or running out an extension lead every time you want to trim, shape or prune your hedges… then Black and Decker Cordless Hedge Trimmer 40v is the go.

In this article, we take a general look at the Black and Decker range of cordless hedge trimmers.

For the record I own and use a Dewalt cordless hedge trimmer for quite a while now and I’m more than happy with it…

If you are looking for a more commercial-grade hedge trimmer or maybe you already have Dewalt battery-operated tools… then I recommend the Dewalt dhct hedge trimmer

Black and Decker first came to business way back in a small area just north of the City of Baltimore, way back in 1910. Then in March 2010 Black & Decker merged with Stanley Works to now be called Stanley Black And Decker.

What to Expect

The company has three different battery-powered sizes you can choose from as well a choice of two bar lengths.

22″ and 24″ are the two standard size trimmers and both use the dual-action blade that gives you a faster cut and fewer vibrations over traditional single blade hedgers.

They run on a lithium-ion rechargeable battery and takes around 1 hr from being dead flat to fully charged.

Depending on the model you choose, most warranties are for 24 months.

Features of Black and Decker Cordless Hedge Trimmers

  • Blade Length

Black and Decker cordless hedge trimmers are fitted with dual action cutting blades that give the user a more comfortable and less fatiguing experience than single action blades.

You have a choice of either 22″ or 24″ and is good to a thickness of 3/4″ branch size.

That is for the 20v and 40v. If you need to cut thicker the 60v will cut branches up to 1 1/2″ thick.

  • Battery Sizes

The current range of battery-operated hedge trimmers comes in 20v, 40v and for the big players 60 volt systems.

The black and decker 20v hedge trimmer is only available with the 22″ blade whereas the black and decker 40v has both options of either 22″ or 24″ blades.

The black and decker 60v hedge trimmer only comes with the 24-inch blade.

  • Ergonomic Grip

The trigger is the full length of the handgrip where the old school was only like a little trigger which only had enough room for the front finger to hold and squeeze on. Now the trigger runs the entire length of the grip making it more comfortable on those longer trims.

The soft grip handles also helps carry some of the vibrations.

  • The Lithium Advantage

All these cordless hedgers use the more efficient lithium-ion batteries. They have a longer lifecycle than other types and hold their charge for longer.

Where the main advantage is the need not to worry about gas anymore or cutting the cord on a corded hedger. Much safer, quicker and greener for the environment.

It only takes around an hour to charge from being dead flat.

The 20v will get you up to 3000 square feet of trimmed hedges per charge and the 40v will get up to 6000 square feet of trimmed hedges per charge.

The 60v information is very limited and the best I can do is this:

How long does it take to charge the battery? Thanks.
Answer:
When hedger first arrived it took 6hrs for a complete charge. After 4hrs of use, I still had power left and took less than 2hrs to fully recharge. I’ve been using it on and off for weeks and have not had to recharge yet.

Other things you need to know

The 60-volt black and decker hedger can only be purchased as a complete unit and not as a skin like the 40v and 20v models.

You can’t mix and match your batteries either so a 40-volt battery won’t work in the 20-volt or the 60v hedger or the other way around.

The 20 volt and 40-volt hedgers can be purchased with a battery or just the skin alone.

Warranty

Warranty on the Black And Deckers cordless hedge trimmer very where the BLACK and DECKER Cordless Hedge Trimmer 60v, 24-Inch LHT360CFF gets the most with a nice 3-year warranty.

Both the BLACK and DECKER 40V MAX Cordless Hedge Trimmer, 24-Inch (LHT2436) and the BLACK and DECKER 20V MAX Cordless Hedge Trimmer with POWERCOMMAND Powercut, 22-Inch (LHT321FF) both get a 24-month warranty from the date of purchase.

Verdict

The features above make this a great choice for those who are looking to get rid of their corded hedge trimmer or want to simply convert over to a cordless and eliminate the use of gas or using a corded hedge trimmer and take more time and effort to run the lead out then to do the job.

With the Black And Decker cordless hedge trimmer you not just buying a tool, you’re buying a complete tool kit because of the unlimited use of the other tools you can buy using the same battery system.
